Deputy Arrests 1 for Illegal Drug Possession

PRESS RELEASE – On Wednesday, Nov. 27, a deputy with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office S.T.I.N.G. Unit conducted a traffic stop on a red in color RAM 1500 in reference to the vehicle displaying no tag.

While patrolling East Currahee Street, a S.T.I.N.G. deputy observed that a red in color RAM 1500 truck displayed no rear license plate. The deputy then initiated a traffic stop near Rumsey Avenue.

While verifying the VIN number inside the vehicle, the deputy observed a THC vape pen hidden next to the driver’s seat. The deputy asked the driver and his passenger to step out of the vehicle to conduct a search of their persons. While searching the driver, the deputy located a pipe common in the use of methamphetamine. Both the driver and passenger were then detained while the deputy conducted a search of the vehicle.

During his search, the deputy discovered a black box which contained suspected methamphetamine.

The driver, identified as Charles Reed, 42 of Toccoa, Ga, was then arrested and transported to the Stephens County Jail without incident. Reed has been charged with two counts of Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug-Related Objects, and a tire violation. Reed was released from the Stephens County Jail on Saturday, Nov. 30, on a $22,000 bond.
