PRESS RELEASE – On Thursday, July 24, 2025, deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Shady Lane in Toccoa in regard to a suspected burglary.
While at the residence, deputies met with a female individual who advised she came to check on her family member’s property following their recent death. The female observed obvious signs of breaking and entering, as well as missing items including firearms, jewelry, and identifying documents belonging to the deceased individual. Deputies contacted the SCSO Criminal Investigations Division who processed the crime scene for potential forensic evidence.
During the investigation, investigators obtained enough evidence to identify Brandon Lee Threlkeld, 32 of Toccoa, as a suspect in the burglary on Shady Lane. Original warrants were then issued for Threlkeld’s arrest for Burglary in the 1st Degree and Criminal Trespass.
On Monday, August 4, 2025, SCSO investigators arrested Sydnie Alexander, 26 of Toccoa, after responding to a call of a suspicious person on Phillips Road where she was seen attempting to burglarize a building on private property. Alexander was transported to the Stephens County Jail where she remains on a $75,000 bond. She was also found to be involved in a burglary on Lake Louise Road between Saturday, August 2, and Monday, August 4, 2025. Alexander has been charged with the following crimes: Burglary, three counts of Criminal Trespass, Criminal Damage to Property in the 2nd Degree, Entering Auto with Intent to Commit Theft, and two counts of Criminal Attempt to Commit a Felony.
It was later confirmed that Threlkeld was at the residence on Phillips Road with Alexander. After several attempts to capture Threlkeld, the suspect was able to flee law enforcement into neighboring counties.
On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the SCSO Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) attempted to serve a warrant at a residence on Davis Avenue in Toccoa where Threlkeld was allegedly hiding. During the warrant service, investigators obtained information that Courtney Bohannon, 52 of Toccoa, was assisting Threlkeld in eluding law enforcement. Bohannon was subsequently arrested and transported to the Stephens County Jail, where she remains on a felony charge for Tampering with Evidence.
During the search of the Davis Avenue residence, CSU deputies discovered a nest of wanted fugitives who had active warrants for felony probation and parole violations. The following individuals were arrested and transported to the Stephens County Jail: Nichole Mote, 35 of Toccoa; Austin Goggans, 24 of Toccoa; William Smith, 34 of Toccoa; and Stephen Maye, 41 of Toccoa.
On Saturday, August 9, 2025, at approximately 11:24 p.m., deputies with the SCSO Patrol Division and CSU conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry near the intersection of Big A Road and Rock Creek Road. Deputies located Threlkeld inside the vehicle and took him into custody without further incident. Threlkeld was immediately transported to the Stephens County Jail, where remains pending a bond hearing.
Upon further investigation, investigators were able to connect Threlkeld to the burglary on Lake Louise Road. In addition to the original warrants, Threlkeld has been charged with Burglary in the 1st Degree, Criminal Attempt to Commit a Felony, and Entering Auto with Intent to Commit Theft.
We would like to thank our partners with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) Task Force, Toccoa Police Department officers, Georgia State Patrol Post 7 Troopers, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources Game Wardens for their assistance during this investigation.
This is still an active and ongoing investigation. More details will be released as they become available.
