3 Arrested Following Skyline Drive Incident

PRESS RELEASE – Two males and one female have been arrested following an investigation into a report of shots fired at a residence in Toccoa yesterday, February 18, 2026.

At approximately 12:48 p.m., Stephens County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a report of shots fired and a physical altercation at a residence on Skyline Drive near Stephen Drive in Toccoa. Deputies and investigators with the SCSO Crime Suppression Unit, as well as Toccoa Police Department officers, responded swiftly to separate the parties.

SCSO deputies and TPD officers engaged in a brief physical altercation with two males who were found to be fighting over a firearm. Once law enforcement officers obtained compliance, one male was detained while the other was transported by Stephens County EMS to a nearby hospital to be evaluated for moderate injuries. The firearm was secured by deputies as evidence. No gunshot wounds were found, though it was determined that at least one round had been fired from the weapon.

SCSO deputies then secured the crime scene until search warrants could be obtained by a Stephens County magistrate judge. While investigating the alleged assault, narcotics investigators were contacted to begin a separate investigation into suspected marijuana inside the residence.

At approximately 3:31 p.m., SCSO investigators conducted a search warrant of the residence and a vehicle on the property. During the search, investigators located 1.8 pounds (850.2 grams) of suspected marijuana in pre-packaged bags, three boxes containing chocolate bars made with psilocybin (hallucinogenic mushrooms), multiple boxes containing approximately 38 THC vapes, and a digital scale.

The following individuals were then arrested and transported to the Stephens County Jail: Xavier Collins, 17 of Toccoa; Jonathan Mayfield, 21 of Toccoa; and Lateriya Hickman, 35 of Toccoa.

Mayfield is being charged with Battery and Reckless Conduct.

Collins is being charged with Battery, Reckless Conduct, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Certain Crime, and Possession of a Handgun by Person Under the Age of 18.

Both Collins and Hickman have been charged with three counts of Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute and seven counts of Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance.

All three individuals remain in jail awaiting a bond hearing with a Stephens County magistrate judge.

“While it may seem like this is ‘just weed,’ it’s still illegal in Georgia,” said Sheriff Rusty Fulbright. “Most importantly, it doesn’t remain ‘just weed’ when it’s sold by people who don’t care who they’re selling to. It can end up in your child’s hands and in our schools.”
