Stephens County Deputy Delivers Baby Formula During Icy Conditions

STEPHENS COUNTY, Ga. – A Stephens County family received unexpected help Tuesday morning after icy road conditions made travel unsafe during winter storm preparations.

According to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, 911 dispatchers received a call around 9 a.m. requesting a citizen assist in Martin.

The family reported an urgent need for baby formula but were unable to safely travel due to slick roadways.

With conditions still hazardous, a sheriff’s office deputy picked up the formula and delivered it directly to the family, allowing them to remain off the icy roads.

The delivery extended to the Gumlog community, according to the agency.

Sheriff Rusty Fulbright said the response reflects the department’s broader commitment to the community.

“‘Protect & Serve’ is more than just words on a patrol car; it’s a commitment to our citizens that starts long before the shift begins,” Fulbright said. “I am incredibly thankful to lead a team of deputies who don’t just show up for a job – they show up to serve with heart, integrity, and courage every day because they understand what it means to be parents, spouses, and simply human.”

The family also thanked the sheriff’s office in a social media post, praising the deputy’s willingness to help during dangerous conditions.

“Shout out to Stephens County Sheriff Department,” the post read. “They delivered formula for our babies all the way to Gumlog in this mess, so we didn’t have to risk wrecking. Love our community!”

The sheriff’s office encouraged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during icy conditions and to reach out for assistance when emergencies arise.
